Enrichment and Socialization
We ensure that all our puppies are well-equipped to excel in their lives with their new forever families. Better quality, such as premium brands, have better digestibility, which translates to less waste. They will need to eat less and be fuller longer, Dry food will help with your puppy's need to chew, as well as help control plaque. AVOID giving table scraps, or people food as this is not healthy for your new family member. The problem with people's food is the spices--- without spices it is okay. *Please note: Treats and Chews I DO NOT recommend beef, pork or chicken bones, leather rawhide bones, pig ears, or anything rawhide. They cannot digest the rawhide, and it settles in the intestines and causes problems down the road. This includes NO Greenies. I DO recommend all antlers. If you have friends that hunt deer, elk, or other animals with horns or antlers, ask them if they need to get rid of them. They are all calcium and the dogs love them. It keeps their teeth free of tarter

UTI
While not all English Springer Spaniels are prone to UTIs their more susceptible than some other breeds, with Females being more affected than males. Like people, dogs have a tube connected to the bladder called the urethra through which urine leaves the body. Bacteria from feces or debris can enter the urethral opening and travel upwards into the bladder. “A urinary tract infection in a dog occurs when there is growth of bacteria in the bladder, “The most common cause of a UTI in dogs is E. coli, but many other bacteria can cause an infection,” If a dog has a weakened immune system due to illness or a lack of proper nutrition, bacteria are more likely to reproduce and cause infection. It’s important to encourage your dog to drink lots of water. Be sure your dog always has access to fresh, clean water, and remember to change their water bowl whenever there’s drool or food residue. If possible, let your dog outside more often, so they’re not holding their bladder for hours and hours.
Signs your puppy/dog may have a UTI
Licking around the urinary opening
Straining or whimpering during urination
Wanting to be let outside more frequently
Dribbling urine
Fever
Accidents in the house (Remember if you have a puppy accident in the house does not always mean UTI.) They are still learning to be potty trained.
Bloody or Cloudy Urine
You should always contact your veterinarian if you think your puppy or dog may have a UTI.

Ear Care
Keep The Ears Clean - Springers have long beautiful ears, that if not taken care of, can get infected. Clean your puppy’s ears, every week or more often if the dog is in the water a lot. Keeping their ears clean will prevent ear infections, ear mites, and a host of other potential problems. An average vet bill for treating ears can run up to $120. You can avoid that altogether by keeping the ears clean and cutting the hair short on the upper 1/2 of the ear, inside and out.
Ear infections can be caused by a number of factors, including allergies, hormonal conditions, nutrition, and autoimmune diseases as well as a buildup of wax and debris. Keeping your dog’s ears dry and clean can help prevent infections
Here are some additional guidelines for ensuring clean and healthy ears:
Your dog’s ears should be cleaned at least once a week, if your dog is prone to ear problems.
Look inside the ear to check for dirt, scratches, parasites, or discharge. Then give them a good sniff. There shouldn’t be any unpleasant odor.
Moisten a cotton ball with ear cleaner and gently wipe out the ears, going no deeper than the first knuckle on your finger.
Keep ears dry and clean, or your dog may face recurrent ear infections that are difficult to treat. Avoid using drying agents on a regular basis—if there’s no problem, they can dry out the ear too much, and if the ear is oozing there’s a reason for it. Drying it up without treating the cause leads to more ear problems.
You should always contact your veterinarian if you think your puppy or dog has an ear infection

Puppy Starter Checklist
Teething
Puppies naturally explore their world by mouthing and biting. Every puppy goes through a teething stage, during which they’ll bite and chew on anything to soothe the discomfort in their mouth. The best way to navigate this phase is by providing plenty of chew toys. Soft toys and blankets offer gentle relief for their gums, while frozen carrots make a tasty and soothing option they’ll love.
When you catch your puppy chewing on something they shouldn’t, redirect their attention to an appropriate chew toy.
The skin of a puppy is different than our skin. That is the reason why you shouldn't bathe your puppy often. Usually ONCE A MONTH is enough. If you bathe your puppy too often, its skin may dry out. We recommend you use either puppy/dog shampoo or tear-free baby shampoo. (Recommend Burt’s Bee Puppy tearless shampoo with buttermilk - found on Amazon list.) Try to keep the inside of the ears dry as well as its face (eyes/nose/mouth). If your puppy gets wet/dirty due to wet weather, you don't necessarily have to bathe them. Towel dry your pup first. Especially the paws, and if you have a crate or use a laundry room, you can put them there for a bit till they are dry and brush them up a bit afterwards .
Bathing
All puppies and dogs need to be brushed. Regular brushing is great and most puppies and dogs love it. Your dog will need to be taken to a groomer at least every 3 months. Regular clipping of the nails and upper 1/2 of the ear hair short, will need to be more often.

Potty Training
The training will go a lot quicker when you establish a routine for the puppy from the beginning. Take the puppy outdoors immediately after they awake or come out of their crate. Allow them some time to go. After each feeding, take the puppy to your desired location. Remember to give them time to get used to this. Puppies usually will eliminate within 20 minutes after a meal. Before bedtime or crating, remember to take the puppy outdoors. If using the outdoors, try adding a bell, or something similar, to your door that the puppy can use to alert you to their needs. All our dogs are door trained. If your puppy has an accident, please do not rub their nose in it, as they do not understand your gesture, as many may believe. Please have patience with your puppy. Tip: To speed up the training process only use the front or back door (pick one) when letting the puppy out. Once they understand the routine, they will simply sit in front of the door to let you know they are ready to go out. Again, a *doggy-door" is great. Reward them with a treat. Lots of "good boy" and "good girl" is highly recommended.
